Govt to Implement Drought Resilience in Northern Kenya for Transformative Impact

The implementation of the Drought Resilience Programme in Northern Kenya, which is intended to have a transformative effect in the counties of Marsabit and Turkana, was the topic of discussion during a meeting chaired by Ephantus Kimotho, Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation.

Other participants included representatives from KfW, the National Treasury, and the governments of Marsabit and Turkana counties.

Despite some initial difficulties, the programme makes use of a list of pre-identified investment possibilities for irrigation, particularly for the restoration of rangelands and the production of fodder, water collection and storage, and water delivery for home consumption.

To make sure the initiative completely accomplishes the intended goal in the two counties, the team decided to have follow-up collaboration meetings with important stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by KFW Director Oska Von Maltzan, Dr. Stephan Levy KFW(online), Dr. Tina Löw KFW(online), Boru D.Boru CEC Marsabit County, Chief Officer for Agricultural Turkana County ,Janerose Tioko amongst other.
