GSU Cadet Drowns During Training

A General Service Unit (GSU) cadet from Embakasi is said to have drowned while swimming with his colleagues.

Wycliffe Geresa, 37, had gone swimming with his course men about 5 kilometers from the Embakasi GSU training school when he sunk into the swimming pool.

“At around 16.30hrs, his course men NCO’S special sop course no 3/2021 were having a swimming lesson when one cadet namely Wycliffe Geresa aged 37 years who was swimming with other cadets sunk into the swimming pool,” a police report in our possession read in part.

Geresa was rescued by pool attendants, who rushed him to Riara Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“He was rescued by the swimming pool attendant whereby he was rushed to Riara hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” continued the report.

Caroline Theuri, the officer on duty, confirmed the incident, saying officers visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

“The scene was visited by the duty officer and duty NCO Embakasi where the incident was confirmed. The necessary police action was also taken,” she said.

The body was taken to the Kenyatta University morgue for a postmortem examination.
