Health Workers Issue One Month Strike Notice In Kisumu

Kisumu County health workers have sent the county administration a one-month strike notice over unpaid salaries and other issues.

They cite the county government’s failure to repay statutory deductions, execute promotions, and provide PPEs, among other things.

The medics have accused the county government of withholding salaries from some of the health workers, as represented by Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (Kuco) Secretary Craus Odhiambo, Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary Kisumu branch Anne Owiti, Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers Secretary Hilary Awili, and Kenya Union of Pharmaceutical Technologies Anthony Aol.

On June 24, the Kisumu Employment and Labour Relations Court ordered promotions and the payment of arrears dating back to July 2019.

They have complained that they are unable to obtain healthcare as a result of the county’s failure to pay NHIF deductions.

About 300 healthcare employees were overlooked for advancements and reorganization.

The health professionals also claimed that their company had broken a previous agreement to pay their salary by the fifth day of each month.
