Heavy rainfall in several parts of the country may intensify next week.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department has cautioned Kenyans to be prepared for potential flooding between April 16-18.
Met Director David Gikungu said in a statement on Saturday that significant rainfall in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, including the Nairobi area, the Southeastern Lowlands, and the South Coast is expected to increase to more than 50mm in 24 hours along the coastline.
Heavy rains have led to the deaths of at least 13 people and displaced some 15,000.
The U.N Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, citing the Kenya Red Cross Society, said Thursday that nearly 20,000 people have been affected.
Currently, nine of the country’s 47 counties have reported flooding issues.
Mudslides have been recorded throughout the central areas. On Tuesday, four people were slain in Narok County, located in the country’s west.
