The body of a 28-year-old fisherman who drowned in Lake Victoria waters near Ringiti Island beach in Suba North constituency five days ago has been discovered.
Justus Ouma’s body was found after an intensive search by local fishermen after he drowned on Saturday evening while on a fishing expedition with his colleagues in Lake Victoria.
The body was found floating in the water this morning by a group of fishermen dispatched by the Ringiti Island Beach Management Unit leadership on Monday to assist in the search mission.
Ringiti Island Beach treasurer Dan Sure confirmed that the deceased was recovered and handed over to police officers, who moved the body to the Homa Bay mortuary.
Ouma died when he lost his balance while inside the boat during a strong wind in the lake, causing him to drown.
Attempts by his fellow fisherman, with whom they were in the same boat, were futile after he drowned and vanished inside the water.
He urged fishermen on Lake Victoria to follow water safety precautions and wear life jackets to avoid a similar incident in the future.
