Homa Bay: Gunmen Raid Police Post, Escape With 4 Rifles, 110 Bullets

Suspected thugs broke into the Kipasi police station in Mbita town, Homa Bay county, on Thursday and stole four rifles and 110 rounds of ammunition.

The burglars are believed to have broken into the police station at an unknown time of night by breaking the back window of the main building, which houses the armoury, report office, sub-chiefs office and temporary holding cells.

Of the stolen guns were three G3 and one AK-47 rifle with serial numbers G3 S/NO. A3 6699056, G3 S/NO. 6593403, G3 FMP 402994 and AK-47 NO. 4913650.

At the time when they broke into the armoury, no officer was around the station but the inspector on duty realized later that someone had broken into the armoury.

Officers from the Mbita and Homa Bay police stations were immediately sent to the scene to investigate where they discovered that the gang accessed the armoury through the window.

Homa Bay county commander Samson Kine says they are still pursuing the culprits.

“We are still pursuing the issue to know how and why it happened that way as part of efforts to get the thieves,” he said.

The Kipasi patrol base is usually manned by six officers.

Police affirmed that they are investigating the circumstances under which the incident happened amid rising fears that the weapons will be used for criminal acts.
