She also recognised the founding Principal Judge of the ELRC, Hon. Justice Mathews Nderi Nduma for his stewardship in setting the foundational structures of the court from 2012 to 2017.

The ELRC has a unique mandate of advancing the goal of industrial justice by promoting peace and harmony in the workplace through the just settlement of disputes between employers and employees.

According to the Chief Justice, over the last 10 years, the ELRC has made great strides towards developing a dynamic labour jurisprudence that enables the realisation of both social justice and economic growth thus ensuring that the two national objectives are pursued in a harmonious manner.

CJ Koome said that in the First Quarter of the Financial Year 2022/2023, the ELRC achieved a Case Clearance Rate of 118% indicating a reduction in pending cases which signifies a reduction in case backlog.

She said that tackling the problem of backlog and delay in the resolution of cases demands that the Judiciary rethink how it manages courts in fundamental ways.
