Written By Lisa Murimi

A tragic fire in Kisumu’s Manyatta area has left a mother and her three children dead, igniting outrage and grief within the community.

Witnesses recount a harrowing ordeal late Wednesday night when an unidentified man allegedly doused their home with petrol before setting it ablaze. The inferno claimed the lives of two adults and two minors.

Desperate cries for help echoed through the night as flames consumed the iron-sheet structures, but the blaze was too fierce for any rescue attempts.

First responders from the Kasagam police station arrived promptly at the scene along Nairobi-Nyamasaria Road. Despite their swift action, the fire had already spread to approximately 20 houses, leaving a trail of destruction.

A fire engine battled the flames, but it was only after the inferno was subdued that the charred remains of the victims were discovered.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with no official statements released yet. However, locals are demanding answers and swift justice for the heinous act that has shattered a family and disrupted many lives.

The victims’ bodies were transported to the mortuary for formal identification and further procedures. Meanwhile, the fire has left several families homeless, compounding the tragedy. Displaced residents have sought refuge in a local church, urgently needing food and shelter.

This devastating incident has highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by Manyatta B area residents. The community, already grappling with economic hardships, now faces the added burden of rebuilding amidst their grief. As investigators search for clues, the community mourns the senseless loss and traumatic disruption, hoping for swift justice for the perpetrator.
