Huduma Number To Phase Out National IDs By December 2021

Kenyans will soon be required by law to use their Huduma Namba cards to access services, jobs and other services. – By Gerald Gekara.

According to government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, the cards will replace National Identification document that have been used since the colonial times.

So far, 37 million Kenyans had registered their details to the system, and are set to receive the cards.

“By the end of this year we hope that all the 37 million Kenyans will have received their Huduma Namba cards as we phase out the national identification cards,” Mr Oguna stated.

So far, 4.5 million messages have been sent to Kenyans, with only 2, 000 people having responded accordingly, according to the government spokesperson.

The exercise that was carried out in 2019 aimed at integrating government services into one single card.

First to recieve the cards were President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, as well as six other Kenyans.
