“I did not bring the virus to Togo”, Adebayor defends his refusal to donate during COVID-19 crisis

Top-flight football player Emmanuel Adebayor has refused to donate to his home nation of Togo’s battle against coronavirus.- By Gerald Gekara.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker has come under fire for refusing to help the African nation he was born and raised in, combat the virus crisis.

Adebayor hit back during a Facebook video online saying he “did not bring the coronavirus to Togo” and he will continue to do what he wants.

“I do what I want to do, eat the food I want, and this is the most important. Then, there will be those who criticise me for not having established a charity in Togo…For those who say that I do not donate, let me be very clear, I really do not donate.” He said.

Emmanuel Adebayor has been self-isolating in his native in Togo. His counterparts have been active in helping out in their respective countries.

Former Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o has been partnering with local authorities in donating relief packages in Cameroon and Drogba helping out with the building of a new hospital in the Ivory Coast.
