The Holy Month of Ramadhan starts today amid the Coronavirus pandemic which has led several measures including an imposed curfew to combat the disease.- By Prudence Wanza.
Due to the 7pm curfew it means Muslims will have to break their fast at 6pm and dash home for their meals.
The curfew by the President Kenyatta and banning of Church and Muslim services means Muslims must adjust to the directive issued by the President.
“We told Christians during Easter that you cannot mark this holiday…We respect all religions but we have said that let us all celebrate and mark these religious days in our homes, on radio and on television,” the president urged during an interview with a local radio station yesterday.
He added, “I ask our Muslim brothers and sisters to mark the holy month of Ramadhan like they have not done before because these are extraordinary times.
This means there will be no usual joint gatherings for Muslims, for the first time in decades.
Attempts to force gathering in many countries ended in arrests. For example in India, people who had attended a large gathering of Tablighi Jamaat, a Muslim missionary movement, at its premises in New Delhi had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
People traveled from outside India to attend this event and it is suspected that they may have introduced the virus into the congregation.
