A gripping courtroom testimony has shed new light on the brutal murder of Starlet Wahu, sister to controversial pastor Kanyari, who was found dead at Solace Park Apartments in South B, Nairobi.
Joseph Ndung’u, the apartment’s caretaker, took the stand and delivered a chilling account of the night of January 3, 2024. He described witnessing a man, believed to be the primary suspect, John Matara, fleeing the crime scene with a blood-stained white towel wrapped around his neck.
Ndung’u testified that he had been seated on the apartment’s veranda when he saw the suspicious figure exiting the building. Alarmed, he rushed to alert the security guard, recounting the eerie sight of the blood-soaked towel.
Acting swiftly, the security guard accessed CCTV footage, tracing the suspect’s movements back to the fourth floor of the building.
Upon reaching the floor, Ndung’u and the guard followed a gruesome trail of blood leading to Room 32—where the lifeless body of Wahu Mwangi, widely known as Starlet Wahu, was discovered.
Prosecutors argue that Wahu, a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, fell victim to a premeditated murder. The court heard that John Matara was formally charged with her murder on February 2, 2024. He has denied the charges, but the court has denied him bond.
The case will proceed on July 28 and 30, 2025.
