The Commission is hosting a stakeholder forum with Persons With Disabilities on improving voter engagement and inclusion for a “stronger democracy.”
The goal of the forum, according to IEBC Vice-Chairperson Juliana Cherera, is to discuss the 2022 General Election Roadmap, Voter Registration targets during the voter registration drive, and share areas of collaboration and institutional commitments to support ECVR and 2022 General Election activities.
PWDs’ participation in the election process, according to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, will allow their voices to be heard and reflected in policymaking.
Evans Misati, Chairperson of the National Steering Committee of the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC), encourages PWDs to join political parties and claim their proper share of national representation.
PWDs were challenged by Anne Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, to encourage their members to register as voters and participate actively in political parties.
She claims that 96% of political parties have complied with the law by including PWDs in their structures.
