Only 229,843 new voters have been registered in the last seven days, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

This is in comparison to a planned weekly target of 1.4 million, according to the commission’s head Wafula Chebukati.

Chebukati “appealed to individuals who have not registered as voters but are eligible to as part of exercising their democratic rights,” according to a statement.

He also urged leaders and all Kenyans of good will to assist and support the Commission’s efforts to register all eligible voters.

He claimed that the exercise of registering residents living outside the country (Diaspora) resulted in the registration of 163 new voters, 184 requests for transfer, and 136 requests for alteration of details.
