IEBC Meets Political Parties Over Nomination Hitch

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has begun a series of consultative forums with the Political Parties Liaison Committee to solve the stalemate over nominations.

The committee is set to discuss 2022 General Election preparedness, nomination rules and proposed electoral legal reforms.

Wafula Chebukati Chairman IEBC says preparedness demands concerted efforts by all Political Parties, Government Institutions, civil society and citizens to play their roles.

“IEBC remains steadfast in this journey towards the 2022 General Elections. We will make sure we deliver free, fair & credible polls.”

A total of 82 Political Parties resubmitted revised nomination rules and IEBC has completed the second review of their nomination rules.

Only 72 were found to be compliant & will be issued with Compliance Certificates as guided by provisions of Section 27 of the Elections Act

The Commission will contact the 10 Political Parties that did not comply with the nomination rules to advise on the way forward.
