IEBC’s Chebukati To Meet Presidential Candidates Next Week

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati revealed that the meeting will see the candidates deliberate on the printed register of voters, election results path and harmonization of campaign schedules for presidential candidates.

Wafula Chebukati, the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has invited all four presidential candidates to a meeting on Wednesday next week.

The candidates; William Ruto (Kenya Kwanza Alliance party), Raila Odinga (Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance), George Wajackoyah (Roots Party) and Waihiga Mwaure of Agano Party will meet Chebukati for a consultative meeting at Windsor Golf Hotel.

In letters dated June 2, sent separately to all the candidates, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati revealed that the meeting will see the candidates deliberate on the printed register of voters, election results path and harmonization of campaign schedules for presidential candidates.

“Please note that you may be accompanied to the meeting by not more than five persons,” the IEBC Chairperson said in a circular.

The meeting follows concerns by some of the aspirantover the plan to use only the digital voter identification kits on what happens if they fall to work.

The commission had pointed out that the use of manual register is part of what greatly contributed to malpractices in previous elections.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati cleared four candidates to vie for the country’s top seat, but rejected 13 others who had been shortlisted.
