The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, is following with a lot of concern about the heightened political situation in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The Executive Secretary reiterated his call for the cessation of hostilities and for an immediate ceasefire.

Dr Workneh further calls for the parties to show restraint, work on de-escalating the tensions and resolve their differences through an all-inclusive national dialogue and reconciliation in the best interest of the country and the region.

Kenya has announced that it will beef up security around its borders in response to turmoil in neighboring Ethiopia.

Bruno Shioso, a spokesman for the National Police Service, issued a statement on Wednesday urging individuals to be vigilant and cautious in their surroundings.

“Kenya, as a close neighbor to some of the afflicted countries, may be negatively impacted by the event’s consequences,” Shioso added.

He went on to say that any suspected unauthorized aliens or unprocessed immigrants in the country should be reported to the nearest police station right once.
