The High Court in Meru has overruled the county assembly’s impeachment of Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud, ruling that his removal from office was illegal.
The court stated in a judgement issued on Wednesday that the residents of Wajir should have been included in the governor’s dismissal process.
The county assembly failed to offer evidence of popular participation in Governor Mohamud’s removal, according to the court.
As a result, Deputy Governor Ahmed Mukhtar, who had assumed the role of Governor, was ordered to return to his previous position as deputy governor.
