President Ruto Presides Over International Women’s Day

Every year March 8 is International Women’s Day, however, this year’s dates have been contradicting because some people are celebrating it earlier on March 2.

DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality is the subject of International Women’s Day this year.

The day honours women’s contributions to society, raises awareness of the fight for gender parity, and motivates support for organizations that assist women around the world. It also makes a call to action for accelerating women’s empowerment and strengthening gender equality.

His Excellency President William Ruto and CS Public Service, Affirmative Action, and Gender Aisha Jumwa oversaw the celebration of International Women’s Day today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

To mark the day, women from Nairobi and surrounding counties arrived in big numbers at KICC as early as 6:00 AM dressed in locally produced attires.

Addressing at the occasion, President Ruto declared that because LGBTQ acts go against Kenya’s customs and beliefs, they will not be accepted.

The President stated that Kenya would not permit same-sex couples even though they respected the judiciary.

“We respect our courts but our traditions and beliefs do not allow same-sex relationships. That will not happen in Kenya, it may happen elsewhere but not in this country,” said the President.

He added, “I will not allow men to compete with women for other men.”

The LGBTQ agenda, which is being promoted in numerous venues, is being fought against, and President Ruto has also called on religious leaders to step in and take a strong stance.

He said, “I want to ask our religious leaders to stand firm and educate our children, our people so that we don’t lose our beliefs and way of life to foreign practices.”

Additionally, the President pledged to lower the cost of living by lowering the cost of basic necessities like gas.

“I have stated that from the month of June, we will put plans in place to ensure that women use clean energy. The first thing that we will do is remove the tax on gas, that eight per cent the government takes will be removed to allow more Kenyans to have gas,” said Ruto.

He added, “Kenyans are buying gas at Ksh2,800 and we are saying that we shall put government money in the sector, the 6kg will be Ksh500 or Ksh300.”

In addition to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Second Lady Dorcas Gachagua, other attendees included Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Woman Representative Esther Passaris, CS Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action Aisha Jumwa, Gender PS Gender Veronica Nduva, and Governors Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), and Cecily Mbarire (Embu).
