The investigation turns to two judges after they were cited negatively in the report of a tribunal that recommended the dismissal of High Court judge Juma Chitembwe for gross misconduct.
The 250-page report issued by the tribunal led by Judge Mumbi Ngugi featured serious claims against the two judges, the identities of whom were not disclosed.
Yesterday, Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi stated that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will decide their destiny.
“A decision will be taken once the report has been fully evaluated,” said Ms. Amadi the JSC Secretary.
Asked whether and when the JSC will take action, Ms Amadi said timetables had not been set since “the calendars are a bit tight for us for now”.
According to the report, which was issued on February 7, 2023, the two anonymous judges were involved in bribery schemes in Mombasa, Malindi, and Nairobi.
One case included a Sh305 million property succession dispute at the High Court in Malindi, Kilifi County, while the other featured a Sh100 million lawyer’s fee note.
