The Kajiado High Court upheld Joseph Ole Lenku’s election as Kajiado governor on Thursday, citing the petitioner’s insufficient evidence.
Justice Janet Mulwa ruled on a petition initially filed by Katoo ole Metito, who was later appointed State House Comptroller.
Mr. Ole Lenku testified in court last December that he won the August 9 governor election legitimately and that the result was a real reflection of the people’s will.
The governor claimed he defeated his closest competitor, Mr Ole Metito, in three of five constituencies but accepted defeat in his own Kajiado South Constituency as well as the urban Kajiado North Constituency.
With the appointment of Ole Metito as State House Comptroller, Mr Paul Kerempu, a teacher and former county government official, took over the petition against Governor Ole Lenku.
Mr Kerempu said that there were anomalies in the election and that candidates from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) were denied access to polling stations, particularly in Kajiado South.
