United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party chairperson and former Machakos Senator, Johnstone Muthama has denied reports that he is planning to dump Deputy President William Ruto for Raila Odinga’s Azimio.
Muthama, who is also running for governor of Machakos on a UDA ticket, stated on Monday that the party would form the next administration and that he remains loyal to the party.
“I am in UDA to stay, to form the next government. I cannot be that shortsighted to lose track of where we are headed while we are so close to the destination. That is not the Muthama Kenyans know,” he told The Standard.
Muthama claims that joining the Azimio brigade would require him to join another political party, despite the fact that he has no working relationships with any of them.
Muthama also accused the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition party of spreading lies in order to cause tensions within the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
“Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition is imprisoned in a gridlock of lies and keeps on blurring the lines between facts and fables expecting us in UDA Kenya to buy their debilitating and fake narrative of defection until everyone realizes,” he added.
The rumors emerged just a day after UDA Vice-Chair Kipruto Arap Kirwa defected to the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party, citing a lack of democracy in the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Kirwa announced that he had resigned from UDA during an Azimio la Umoja rally at Sirisia Market in Bungoma County on Sunday.
