Education CS Professor George Magoha has announced that under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Junior Secondary School will be offered in both boarding and day secondary schools across the country.

According to a statement issued on May 12, all existing boarding and day secondary schools should accept learners transitioning from Grade 6 to Grade 7 under CBC, based on recommendations established by the Ministry.

The government has also picked 1,500 primary schools that will accommodate junior secondary schools since they have enough learning and teaching facilities as well as land for physical growth, according to the statement.

“Some of these schools will be developed further to have a full-fledged secondary wing in the future”, read part of the statement.

The CS recommended private schools, particularly those in metropolitan areas, establish stand-alone junior secondary schools to allow students to transition from elementary to secondary school.

He also stated that the ministry had designated approximately 1,500 primary schools to host extra students advancing to Grade 7.

Furthermore, the government has assured all students, parents, and teachers that CBC implementation is a single course with protocols and mechanisms in place for the transition from Primary to Junior Secondary.
