William Kabogo, leader of the Tujibebe Wakenya Party and Kiambu gubernatorial candidate, has hinted at abandoning the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking during the Kiambu Gubernatorial debate which aired on Citizen TV on Sunday, June 26, the former governor stated that he was riding on his own and was not backed by any presidential candidate.
“Things change and right now I’m on my own and I’m doing fine,” Kabogo stated.
The issue first arose when Citizen TV anchor Waihiga Mwaura asked the four candidates if their manifestos aligned with the agendas of their Presidential candidates.
In response, Kabogo categorically stated that he was not associated with any presidential candidates, despite the fact that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) had previously confirmed that the Tujibebe Party was one of the 11 political parties that comprised the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“Believe you me, I do not have a manifesto of any Presidential candidate as we speak. So I will be dealing with my manifesto which is just to improve the lives of the people of Kiambu and make it easy to survive and this can only be done not by opening a bank,” he stated.
The feud between Kabogo and DP Ruto has been widely publicized in the last three weeks, forcing the former Kiambu governor to campaign on his own.
It began two weeks ago, when they boycotted a campaign meeting convened by the DP in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, along with Chama Cha Kazi leader Moses Kuria.
The two complained about mistreatment by Ruto’s UDA party, which they claimed was only campaigning for its candidate, Kimani wa Matangi, despite the fact that the Kenya Kwanza coalition had other gubernatorial candidates.
Kuria, who appeared to have reconciled with Ruto, was spotted at various Kenya Kwanza meetings.
