Kajiado Governor Launches Mazingira Unit Ahead Of El Nino

Lenku stated that his administration is taking all necessary precautions in preparation for the anticipated extra-heavy rain, as well as accelerating the capacity to harvest rainwater.

Kajiado Governor Joseph Lenku has established the Mazingira Unit in advance of the El Nino.

The unit will be in charge of sanitation and waste management in the county’s urban areas.

Lenku stated that his administration is taking all necessary precautions in preparation for the anticipated extra-heavy rain, as well as accelerating the capacity to harvest rainwater.

“The establishment of the Mazingira Unit reflects our unwavering dedication to ensuring that the people of Kajiado have the right to reasonable standards of sanitation, as well as a clean and healthy environment,” he said.

The unit will also create job opportunities for the ever-growing population.

Speaking in Ngong town, the Governor explained that his vision is to achieve a transformed and sustainable Kajiado through modulated pastoralism, livable towns, a climate-proofed physical environment, and equitable access to education for children.

“My strategy is to approach each of these goals in a systematic, structured, and creative manner that utilizes the financial and human capital resources that we have, efficiently and effectively,” Lenku said.

The Mazingira unit is made up of county staff from the departments of Inspectorate, public health and sanitation, and environment officers among others.

Other functions of the unit’s job will be to ensure that urban, peri-urban areas and human settlements are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
