Former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka led 10 members of parliament in a closed door meeting to discuss the near fallout over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI). – By Gerald Gekara.
Kalonzo was accompanied by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu alongside other Wiper, Jubilee and Chama cha Uzalendo (CCU) members, who sought audience over the report’s failure to effect the creation of an extra constituency, and county.
The leaders have called for a split of the expansive Kitui County, with majority of the residents lobbying for the creation of Mwingi County.
“We note with great concern that Kitui County was not allocated an additional constituency, even though the County is most deserving due to its population of 1.14 million people and vast land area of 30,570 square kilometres“, the leaders said in a joint statement.
However, the leaders pledged to support to the legal and constitutional reforms proposed in the BBI Report, but with a rider that Kitui County be allotted additional constituencies.
