KDF Honors Retired Veteran in Heartwarming Ceremony in Kitui

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Directorate of Military Veterans, alongside serving personnel from 75 Artillery Battalion, paid a special visit to Retired Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Eresmas Mwenga Kitali at his home in Kangii, Kitui West, on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Led by Brigadier (Rtd) Isaac Muchendu, the team aimed to honor WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga’s distinguished military career and his dedicated service to the nation. The visit was also a moment to spread cheer and show kindness to the veteran and his family, exemplifying the KDF’s commitment to the welfare of its retired personnel.

Brigadier (Rtd) Muchendu praised WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga as a gallant soldier, describing him as an expert artillery instructor and a firm disciplinarian whose exemplary conduct continues to inspire both current and former servicemen.

He emphasized that the KDF Veterans Directorate, working alongside county veteran forums, will persist in undertaking such initiatives, demonstrating the force’s dedication to supporting its retirees.

The Acting Commanding Officer of 75 Artillery Battalion, Major Victor Ombaba, also expressed admiration for WO1 Mwenga’s unwavering commitment and courage during his service. He highlighted that Mwenga embodied the spirit of patriotism and duty, serving the nation with distinction for over three decades.

WO1 (Rtd) Mwenga, who served between 1965 and 2002, reflected on his illustrious career, recalling roles at the 3rd Battalion Kenya Rifles (3KR), Artillery Brigade, and the School of Artillery. Most notably, he served as the longest-ever Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at 75 Artillery Battalion, earning respect from peers and superiors alike.

The ceremony was attended by senior retired officers, serving officers, veterans’ forum members from Kitui and the Artillery Brigade, family members, friends, and local leaders, all united in honoring a true patriot and dedicated soldier.
