Kenya Airways’ management has praised the crew of the KQ100 flight that was intercepted and diverted in the UK due to a security threat alert.

The crew was treated to a welcoming party to appreciate thsir patience and professionalism during the ordeal.

“Last night, we hosted a welcome reception for the crew of KQ100 to thank them for their professionalism, patience and going the extra mile to ensure the safety, security and well-being of our guests onboard,” KQ said.

“We are proud of the team for showing leadership and taking the necessary security precautions, exercising a high level of safety measures onboard as per the aviation security training. You demonstrated the true spirit of The Pride of Africa,” KQ said further.

The reception was organised by KQ Managing Director Allan Kilavuka, who gave cake and embraces in equal measure as the aircraft crew lined up for photos and intense laughing.

The KQ100 flight from Nairobi to Heathrow Airport was intercepted mid-air by French Air Force jets and handed over to the UK Royal Air Force.

The aircraft was then diverted to Stansted Airport for security reasons.

After thorough checks, the aircraft was released back to Heathrow to continue normal operations.

KQ also allayed fears that the aircraft was carrying suspicious passengers and claimed that a bomb was on board the flight.
