Kenya Bans All India Passenger Flights

For the next 14 days, all passenger flights from India will be denied entry into Kenya, according to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

This ban, which goes into effect at midnight on Saturday, comes in the wake of a massive increase in COVID-19 infections and deaths in the South Asian region.

CS Mutahi Kagwe also stated that all passengers entering Kenya would be subjected to mandatory COVID-19 monitoring, with those who test positive being subjected to mandatory quarantine.

Kenya has now joined a list of countries that have either prohibited or restricted travel to and from India, including the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Oman, and Singapore.

How is India Coping With COVID-19?

India’s death toll has now passed 200,000. Mortality data there is poor and deaths at home often go unregistered, especially in rural areas – so this is simply the official figure.

People have died waiting for hospitals beds, as oxygen supplies run critically low, and hospitals buckle under the strain.

Crematoriums are also running out of space, with some operating non-stop.

In the capital Delhi, workers have been forced to build makeshift funeral pyres in parks and other empty spaces.

Families have had to wait hours before being allowed to cremate their dead and have also been asked to help by piling wood and assisting in other rituals.
