Eliud Owalo, the cabinet secretary for information, communication, and the digital economy, attended this morning’s opening of the Ol-Borana semi-conductor manufacturing system at Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri County alongside his H. E. the Deputy President, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua.
The semiconductor was created locally in Nyeri County. It is one of the most cutting-edge semiconductors.
“This system is going to be helpful in agriculture, bio-technology and in manufacturing of chips for microelectronics,” said Owalo.
He added, “These areas fall squarely within the Kenya Kwanza Development PLAN for KenyaThe innovation is also going to give Kenya a niche in the world of microchip production. By so doing, it will contribute to our dream to become not just a major consumer of technology, but also a producer.”
A semiconductor is a solid substance that has a conductivity between that of an insulator and that of most metals, either due to the addition of an impurity or because of temperature effects. Devices made of semiconductors, notably silicon, are essential components of most electronic circuits.
Semiconductor Manufacturing means any process or operation producing semiconductor material, slicing or polishing semiconductor material, utilizing photoresist to manufacture intermediate products, or producing either semiconductor devices or related solid state devices.
