Kenya Meteorological Department Predicts Continued Rainfall Nationwide

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised the public to brace for continued rainfall across the country over the next seven days.

In its latest weather forecast, the department noted that isolated instances of heavy rainfall are expected in various regions, particularly in the Highlands to the west and east of the Rift Valley—including Nairobi—as well as the Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern Lowlands, and parts of Northeastern Kenya.

In the western Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, light morning rains are expected in some areas, followed by sunny intervals. However, these areas are likely to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms in many locations. Light night showers are also expected in a few places and may occasionally extend to more widespread areas.

Counties within this zone include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.

Turkana and Samburu counties are also set to experience morning rains, along with afternoon and night showers.

In central Kenya, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi counties, cloudy mornings with light rains are expected. These will likely give way to afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms in some areas, occasionally becoming more widespread.

Counties in northeastern Kenya—namely Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—are also likely to receive scattered rains in the morning, afternoon, and night.

In the southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, cloudy mornings with light rain are expected. These will be followed by sunny intervals, with chances of afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms in select areas.

Meanwhile, the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, along with coastal regions of Tana River County, can expect showers in the morning, afternoon, and evening in some parts.
