Police Investigate Multiple Deaths Reported Across Counties

Detectives are investigating the death of a 38-year-old man who allegedly died by suicide after jumping into a 55-foot-deep borehole in a village in Meru County.

According to police, the incident occurred in the Kibugua area, where the man reportedly walked into a neighbor’s compound before jumping into the borehole. Emergency responders and a rescue team managed to retrieve his body from the scene.

Authorities say the motive behind the suspected suicide remains unclear and investigations are ongoing. The body was taken to Chuka General Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

This was one of three deaths reported on Saturday, April 12.

In another case, a 35-year-old man identified as Saraphim Kipkogei from Masese village in Nandi County died by suicide. He was found hanging from a roof rafter inside his sitting room, with a bed sheet tied around his neck. Police said no suicide note was recovered, and the reason for the act is yet to be determined. The body was transported to the Kaimosi Jumuia Farewell Home for autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Bomet County’s Jua Kali area, 45-year-old John Mutai was found dead by suicide in his employer’s workshop. He had hanged himself from a roof rafter. Police reported no suicide note was found, and the motive remains unknown. The body was moved to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary for examination.

The recent surge in suicide cases has raised concern, with calls for increased mental health support and intervention to curb the growing trend.

In a separate and disturbing case, a 32-year-old woman was found murdered and dumped by the roadside in Amwathii Sub-Location, Kabachi Location, Meru County.

Police suspect the woman was sexually assaulted before her death on April 12. Her body was discovered lying in a pool of blood with visible injuries to her forehead and the back of her head.

Authorities say the motive behind the killing has yet to be established. The body was taken to the Nyambene Sub County Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A manhunt for the suspected killer is currently underway.

Law enforcement agencies have expressed concern over the rising cases of murder, with reports indicating that up to eight murder cases are being recorded daily across the country.
