Kenya Seeks Bilateral Partnerships for Forest Conservative, Achievement of 15 Billion Trees Initiative

In tandem with the ongoing COP28 in Dubai, UAE, Prof. Heiko Balzter of the University of Leicester and CCF Mr. Alex Lemarkoko had bilateral conversations.

Working together to scale up the forest alarm system was the main goal of the meeting.

The University helped the Service in Kwale and Kilifi counties as they piloted a forest alerts system.

He later spoke with Mr Torsten Karlsson, CEO of Swedish company BCC, about their cutting-edge technology for producing large quantities of tree seedlings.

One of the top organisations for the machine-based propagation of seedlings is BCC. Currently, the nation is working towards an ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees over the course of the next ten years.

Key to the attainment of this target is the production of 1.5 billion tree seedlings annually. KFS is therefore exploring innovations that can enhance the mass production of high-quality seedlings to help the country and various institutions produce and avail seedlings for growing.
