Kenya To Preside Over Regional Center On Small Arms Council of Ministers

Kenya has assumed command of the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) Council of Ministers.

RECSA, which covers the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa, and bordering states, is an intergovernmental organization tasked with coordinating the Nairobi Protocol’s implementation.

This is about preventing, controlling, and reducing the use of small arms and light weapons in the regions above.

Taking over the chairmanship will see that Kenya’s responsibilities in eradicating the weapons are expanded.

After welcoming the position, Interior PS Raymond Omollo assured Kenya is committed to deploying participative leadership and fostering collaboration among the member states.

This is aimed at ending violent crimes and conflicts aggravated by the use of weapons.

Omollo spoke in Kinshasha, DR Congo, where he represented the country during the 10th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers and the 14th Technical Advisory Committee meeting.

He noted that small arms and light weapons have played a role in the rise of conflict, crime, and related loss of love.

“There is, therefore, an urgent need to control and manage their distribution and acquisition,” he said.
