Kenya Forest Service has launched two (2) new patrol boats that will go a long way in enhancing the conservation and protection of mangrove ecosystems.
The new patrol boats, procured through support from Eden Reforestation Projects, were launched as KFS led the Nation in marking the International Day for the Conservation and Mangrove Ecosystem.
The colorful event was held at Mirironi, Jomvu (Tudor Creek) in Mombasa County.
Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry Hon. Mohammed Elmi together with the Chief Conservator of Forests Mr Julius Kamau were joined by Victor Mwanga (Country Director Eden Reforestation Projects Kenya) in flagging off the two vessels at Tudor Creek.
The project has adopted 500 Ha of mangrove forest for three (3) years to restore and rehabilitate. The project is also working with KFS at the entire Kenyan coastline mangrove ecosystems where they have adopted 10,100 Ha.
The two new patrol boats add to another which was launched last year in Lamu County by the CCF as the country marked the same international calendar event.
Today’s launch was attended by KFS strategic partners at the Coast Conservancy, key among them the Kenya Navy and the Kenya Coast Guard Service.
