Kenyatta University Students innovate ventilators

Kenyatta University students have innovated homemade ventilators which they hope will help in treatment of Corona virus.

The students say the inspiration to come up with such ventilators was due to the shortage of the commodity especially now when the country is in dire need to help in treatment of Covid-19.

Bernard Karanja, a Pharmacy student at the Kenyatta University said the ventilators have been tested and they are going work effectively.

“We blended oxygen and medical to ensure we get the saturation needed and we are sure the ventilators will function effectively,” he said.

The institution is now waiting for the industrialization CS Betty Maina and the ministry of health to approve the usage of the ventilators.

Once that has been done the institution says they will be able to produce 50 ventilators per week.

Corona virus attacks the lungs and therefore the ventilators will be very crucial in treatment of treatment of the disease.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, said there is a shortage of ventilators in the country and called upon suppliers not to hoard the ventilators which are needed to assist covid-19 patients in breathing.
