Kilifi: Cop On The Run After Defiling A Teenager

The girl was on her way home from work as a casual labourer at a food kiosk. She encountered the police officer a few meters from her workplace.

Kilifi police are looking into one of their own after he allegedly violated a 15-year-old.

The constable is accused of perpetrating the crime last Friday at about 9.30 p.m. at the Marereni Police Station in Magarini Constituency.

The girl was on her way home from work as a casual labourer at a food kiosk. She encountered the police officer a few meters from her workplace.

The youngster, who dropped out of Kambija Primary School in February owing to health issues, stated that the police officer, who was dressed in civilian attire, demanded to know where she was travelling at that hour before threatening to arrest her.

She begged him to take her home, but instead, he brought her to a neighbouring guesthouse and defiled her.

Witnesses have recorded testimonies with the investigating authorities, according to Kilifi County Criminal Investigating Officer (CCIO) Noah Katumo.

“Once our investigations are finished, we will turn the file over to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for guidance,” he stated.

Mr Katumo stated that a parade to identify the culprit will be part of the investigation.

“We want to close any gaps that may allow the survivor to be denied justice,” he continued.

The defilement of the young girl was the second occurrence involving a police officer from Marereni Police Station.

A DCI officer defiled a 16-year-old girl inside his car on January 18.

The CCIO verified that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had finished its investigation and turned the file over to the DPP for action.
