The county government of Kilifi has issued a stern directive against fishermen who have crossed into the Indian Ocean waters owned by Kenya.
This the government says, is an effort to maintain the local fishermen and prevent illegal fishing activities off the coast of the country.
Aside from tourism, fishing is a major income earner for residents in the county of Kilifi, and this according to local fishing groups, is not being felt well as most fishermen from neighboring Tanzania have encroached into Kenyan waters, thus overstepping their territories.
