Kilimani Guns Dealer’s Fate To Be Known Today

The lawyers claimed that their client was diabetic and required medication. They also claimed that he was not a flight risk.

Ken Wycliffe Okello Lugwili, a man linked to a cache of weapons recovered from an office in Kilimani escorted to Kilimani Police Station.

A Kiambu County court will rule today (Friday) on whether detectives will be allowed to hold a city trader in whose office police discovered 22 guns and 500 bullets for another five days.

Mr Wycliffe Okello Lugwili, who was detained on Wednesday night, appeared in the Kiambu Law Courts on Thursday but was unable to take a plea as detectives needed more time to investigate the matter before charges could be brought against him.

A security team accompanying auctioneers on a mission to cart away the businessman’s property over office rent arrears amounting to millions of shillings allegedly discovered the cache of arms in Mr Lugwili’s office.

Mr Lugwili appeared before magistrate Diana Mochache where His lawyers, Mr Simon Mburu and Mr Anthony Mburu, objected to the prosecution’s request, made through a miscellaneous application, to detain the suspect for five days pending the conclusion of investigations.

The lawyers claimed that their client was diabetic and required medication. They also claimed that he was not a flight risk.

“My client is diabetic and needs access to his medication. We oppose his further detention by police as investigations continue because he has cooperated with the police and even went ahead to surrender himself at Kilimani Police Station when he learnt that he was a wanted person,” said Mr Mburu.

Ms Mochache ordered the police to provide Mr Lugwili with medication and to bring him to court at 9 a.m. today to determine whether he should be detained further pending investigations.

“The accused will be granted access to medication and report here tomorrow when a ruling on the miscellaneous application will be issued,” Ms Mochache said.
