Five Kirinyaga County Assembly members have been thrown out of House committees amid new power conflicts.
Mutira Ward MCA David Kinyua Wangui, who was the chairman of Legal Affairs and delegated county legislation, and Kanyekiine Ward MCA Moses Migwi, who was a vice chairman Administration and Public Services, are among the five MCAs removed of committee duties.
Kinyua is most known for filing an impeachment motion against Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru in 2020, accusing her of serious misconduct and abuse of authority before the Senate restored her.
“I will not keep quiet even if they remove me in the house committee. I have to fight for the people of Kirinyaga,” Kinyua said.
County Assembly majority leader Daniel Kibinga confirmed the moves, saying the five MCAs were ousted by committee members for indiscipline.
The five MCAs allege they were kicked off committees because they opposed Waiguru’s government.
“There are 31 MCAs in the County Assembly of Kirinyaga and only 6 of us are independent and can raise harsh questions against the Waiguru government. “The rest are ‘yes madam,'” said MCA David Mathenge.
They also argued that the procedure was defective and violated standing orders, and they promised to fight their dismissal in court.
“They are removing us from the committees because of attending Kirinyaga Woman rep’s ceremony on Sunday at Kagumo and fighting for Kagio trader Jeremiah Njogu who is being harassed by the MCAs,” Ker
