What Fuels Killings, Torture In Gusiiland?

Witchcraft labelling, culture, and customs have surfaced as causes supporting human rights violations in Kisii.

Killings and other occurrences have shaken the county, raising public worry.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights dispatched a team to the county to undertake an investigation into the rights violations that had been targeting children, the elderly, and the vulnerable members of the community.

According to the commission, cultism and witchcraft, which have experienced an upsurge in body parts harvesting, have also surfaced as key causes as the inquest unfolds.

Other causes mentioned by people who met with officials include property and inheritance concerns, drug misuse among the young, self-proclaimed militia organizations, poverty and unemployment, family disagreements, and a lack of integrity among the county’s law and security enforcement.
