Kisii MCAs Clash Over Kisii Governor Arati ‘Attempted Impeachment’

On Wednesday, chaos erupted at the Kisii County Assembly when Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) hurled obscenities, resulting in the session ending early as most of the MCAs left.

The exchange was sparked by Kisii Governor Simba Arati’s Monday siege, which saw several General Service Unit (GSU) officers surround his office at Gusii Stadium on Monday, October 30.

During the session, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCAs accused their United Democratic Alliance (UDA) colleagues of seeking to impeach the Governor during a previous session.

The ODM-affiliated MCAs demanded additional investigations and asked the national government to enhance security at the county chief’s residences and offices to prevent a repeat of the incident in the future.

After the ODM MCAs made these statements, the UDA MCAs on the other side of the aisle disputed the charges.

At this point, several MCAs began to leave the chambers, while others remained and hurled additional abuses.
On Monday, October 30, GSU officers surrounded Arati’s office in Gusii Stadium and barred the Governor from entering.

On the same day, ODM criticized the siege and demanded that Governors refrain from tormenting them.
