Kisumu: Man Crushed to Death While Trying To Steal Sugarcane From Moving Truck

A middle-aged man was killed when he was run over by a sugarcane-carrying truck while attempting to pull a stick of cane from the speeding vehicle along the Kachok-Kondele bypass.

The man was run over and died on the spot.

According to Nyanza Regional traffic boss Joseph Ng’ang’a, the deceased was dragged from the trailer and crushed to death by the trailer’s rear tyres.

Pulling cane from trucks ferrying sugarcane is common in the lakeside city, with many people lining up along the highway to do so.

According to Ng’ang’a, the truck, which was destined for the Kabras sugar industry in Western Kenya, was inspected at the Kondele police station.

The truck driver escaped unharmed, while the deceased’s body was taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital JOOTRH mortuary.
