TOGO: Embrace Multi-Sectoral Programs To Tackle Plastic Waste

Migori County environment stakeholders have outlined multi-sectoral approach to tackle plastic waste in Migori County.

National Environment Management Authority County Director Tom Togo said they will combine efforts with the local administration to help tackle the plastic menace in Migori County.

He said that Migori County being at the border with Tanzania has had to contend with the influx of plastic materials that are used by many business persons and all stakeholders will use county reinforcement officers to help them nab the users of the plastic waste that has clogged and blocked some water points.

He added that the authority will work closely with the County environment committees to measure that they end and reduce the menace in many towns in Migori.

Migori County executive for the environment and climate change Rahab Robi said that the county reinforcement and environmental officers will work closely to make sure that the county well tackles the plastic menace and those involved are brought to book.

She said Migori being at the border has had to contend with the influx of the plastic menace in the county of Migori.

Migori County deputy county commissioner for Suna West Sub County Mutua Mbela said that his office would also reinforce the directive by the NEMA and the county Government to help eradicate the menace in many parts of Migori and its environs.

Climate Change activist Nancy Ng’ong’a said that the issues of plastic menace in the county have been ignored by the residents of Migori County and something must be done.
