Kitui Priest faces arrest after COVID-19 recovery

The Kitui Catholic Priest, quarantined at Mbangathi Hospital is set to be arrested by police after recovering from Covid 19.
Father Nicholas Maanzo, who travelled from Ireland to Kenya and failed to observe quarantine rules may be arrested on Good Friday, a solemn day for Roman Catholics.


Effectively, Father Maanzo may celebrate the entire Passion of Christ- Crucification, Death and Ressurection of Christ in a police cell- awaiting to be charged on Tuesday next week.
Worse for Father Maanzo, he can neither travel back to his work Station in Ireland- his mission Parish there gate been closed- nor go back to his Kitui Diocese home, following the 21 day restrictions imposed by Preident Uhuru Kenyatta.


Maanzo will be charged with exposing the people of Kitui County to the highly contagious Corona virus by refusing to observe quarantine rules.
He is alleged to have mingled freely with several people in Kitui-including visiting an ATM and a supermarket.


Maanzo called a press conference at his Kihara home to deny the allegations before he developed Corona like symptoms.
The priest domestic servant is also said to have contracted the Corona disease.
