KMPDU calls off strike for negotiations, Nurses defy

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) have issued a press statement calling off its strike that was scheduled to happen today – By Gerald Gekara.

The union acknowledged the National Assembly’s pledge to address their grievances, and urged its members to report to their work stations until further communication on December 21.

However, unionists from the nurses side have distanced themselves from the calls to end the strike, saying the government must adhere to their demands before they resume their duties.

Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary General Seth Panyako said the nurses needs are as critical as the country’s state of the pandemic, and have urged the government to safeguard them by listening to their grievancies.

The striking nurses are set to convene at the Uhuru Park grounds in solidarity with other workers around the counties, who have failed to turn up for work.
