Kositany: ‘Deep state’ wants to return Ruto to ICC

Jubilee Deputy Secretary-General Caleb Kositany has accused the ‘deep state’ of manufacturing evidence meant to block Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 State House bid. – By Collins Osanya.

The Soy legislator was speaking at a function in Eldoret on Tuesday, 10 October where he accused the ‘deep state’ of leveling unfair competition against Ruto.

“Yesterday four police officers sent from Nairobi collected all the 2007 post election violence files from Eldoret. They are now looking for propaganda from the Eldoret files with which to charge the DP and other leaders from Rift Valley,” Kositany stated.

The MP went further and questioned why files on the post-poll violence witnessed in other parts of the country were not collected. “People fought in Naivasha, Nairobi, Mombasa and even Kisumu. Why are you just collecting the Eldoret file? Also collect the files on Kisumu and Nairobi.”

Kositany further cautioned the state from setting in motion activities which would spark violence in the country adding, “Kenyans are cleverer this time. Even clever than some of their leaders. Let Ruto campaign for presidency in peace.”

New order

Last week, the National Security Advisory Committee NSAC stated new provisions of the Public Order Act meant to foster peaceful relations in the country.

The guidelines have not been well received by the DP’s political camp after Ruto’s tour of Nyamira county was disrupted by a contingent of police officers.

On Sunday, 11 October, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga hosted 300 Kikuyu elders plus youth and women from the community at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Jaramogi’s final resting place, in Bondo, Siaya County.

Although Raila steered off politics, speakers during the event didn’t with Jeremiah Kioni and Peter Kenneth who led the delegation promising a collaboration in the near future.

“In 2002, we had the National Rainbow Coalition that saw Mwai Kibaki elected as President. In 2007, there was a grand coalition government after the contested presidential election, while post-2017 elections gave birth to the handshake. We have enough experience on why we always fight and we now have a solution to our problems,” Kioni revealed.

However, the DP echoed Kioni’s statements on unity when he hosted a delegation of Luo clergymen at his Sugoi home on Monday, 12 October.

“We must continue the conversation on building bridges of friendship so that we can work towards a better Kenya that has no cadres. No divisions,” Ruto stated before dismissing those asking him not to hold political meetings across the country.
