To improve security in Laikipia County, the government has deployed extra police personnel and established new administrative units.
According to Interior CS Fred Matiangi, an entire police division would be stationed at the newly-gazetted Kirima division, as well as two extra police stations in the bandit-prone area.
Matiang’i established a new administrative sub-county on Friday to address insecurity in the area.
According to him, the creation will bring government and security authorities closer to the Sipili and Ng’arua backwaters.
A suspected arson attempt was made in one of the area’s schools on Tuesday.
According to a police report, armed criminals set fire to a store in Merigwiti Primary with the intent of causing further harm.
Matiang’i has promised displaced families that the government will assist them in returning to their fields and rebuilding homes that have been razed by bandits.
The CS provided a variety of groceries, blankets, and iron sheets to the more than 150 households who were affected.
