Leaders rally behind Brigid Kosgei after heroic win

World record holder Brigid Kosgei ran an appalling performance to retain and clinch her second London Marathon title, at a record time of 2:18:58.

Leaders poured their congradulatory messages to the young marathoner.

Deputy President William Ruto congradulated Kosgei and her co-runner Ruth Chepng’etich who came third.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei & Ruth Chepng’etich for triumphantly defending your London Marathon title & emerging third in the race, respectively. Your endurance, mental strength, will-power & assiduity are a solid manifest that Kenya is home to the world’s top-ranking athletes.” DP Ruto said.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga praised the record holder for retaining Kenya’s claim for long distance races.

“What an outstanding run, congratulations Brigid Kosgei on successfully defending your title and winning the #LondonMarathon. You have lived up to the strong Kenyan tradition in distance running. Keep going and keep inspiring. Hongera!” Raila said in a statement.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said the win was an inspiration to young women in the country who desired greater achievements.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei for successfully defending your title at the #Londonmarathon2020 . Not only have you made Kenya proud, but continued to encourage young women who desire to achieve beyond their limits. It’s a world full of possibilities.” Anne Waiguru tweeted.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei for winning the 2020 #LondonMarathon Elite Women’s Race. Great applause to Ruth Chepng’etich for emerging third in the race. Proudly Kenyan” Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho tweeted.
