A team of Kenya’s leading bus body builders yesterday toured the Scania East Africa warehouse in Industrial Area to catch a glimpse of a BRT Bus sample. – By Gerald Gekara.

The companies were granted access to the modern buses which have been touted to feature commercially available biofuels: bioethanol, biodiesel biogas and HVO and hybrids, as well as fossil fuels.

“In fostering our relationship with our local body builders, we recently hosted Banbros Ltd, East Africa, Master Fabricators Ltd (Kenya, East Africa), LSHS Ltd, East Africa and Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd-KVM to view our city bus, in working towards achieving a locally built city bus suitable for BRT.” Scania said.

The bus built by HIGER, a body builder in China, on a Scania K250 UB 4×2 LB chassis, showcases Scania’s capability of delivering a safe, reliable, environmentally friendly and efficient BRT solution for the region.

The BRT bus is built for 91 passengers (37 seated and 54 standing) and one wheelchair bay to accommodate persons with disabilities.
